AREAS OF PRACTICE
The mainstay of Ivan’s practice is in commercial and civil litigation where he handles a diverse range of maters from personal injury claims, and claims against harassment to commercial contractual disputes and claims against directors of companies for breach of fiduciary duty. In February 2015, Ivan successfully applied for an order in the State Courts, prohibiting debt collectors from harassing his client under the Protection from Harassment Act. This was published by the Straits Times at:http://news.asiaone.com/news/singapore/harassed-some-turn-laws-fight-back. In the recent High Court case of Yeo Sing San v Sanmugam Murali and another [2016] SGHC 14, Ivan was successful before the High Court in obtaining leave for the Plaintiff to commence legal action against another director on behalf of the company pursuant to section 216A of the Companies Act. Besides his litigation practice, Ivan has also developed a practice in family law where he handles divorces and matrimonial disputes relating to custody, maintenance and division of matrimonial assets. Ivan also undertakes commercial contracts drafting, business structuring and corporate advisory work for his corporate clients and estate planning work for his private clients.
ABOUT IVAN
Ivan graduated from Monash University, Australia with a Bachelor of Laws.
As a lawyer, Ivan has experience in the conduct of legal proceedings before the State Courts, Family Justice Courts, High Court and the Court of Appeal in relation to various aspects of the law such as civil and commercial litigation, family law, criminal law and the appointment of deputies under the Mental Capacity Act. In addition to litigation, Ivan also provides legal advice in relation to mergers and acquisitions and undertakes the drafting of commercial documents for his corporate clients. For his private clients, Ivan offers a variety of legal services ranging from legal advice to drafting of wills, trust instruments, and private contracts.
Due to his pragmatic, expedient and result based approach, Ivan is able to offer his corporate clients legal solutions that makes commercial sense as well as holistic solutions that cater to the needs of each individual client for his private clients.
